Today we travel to Trakai, the historic capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, located just 28 kilometers from Vilnius. This picturesque town, built among lakes, was once the political center of medieval Lithuania and remains home to the unique Karaim ethnic community.
The highlight of the day is a visit to the magnificent Trakai Island Castle, dramatically situated on Lake Galvė. This restored 14th-century Gothic castle, with its distinctive red brick towers, is one of Lithuania’s most iconic landmarks. You’ll explore the castle’s chambers and learn about the grand dukes who once ruled from here.
